The Long Drive

Today I had to drive 3.5 hours north to the poconos to check out a conference/retreat center, take a one hour tour…and then drive all the way back!  So much driving! For some reason, faced with a day of driving, I get a little panicked inside. But actually it was a really good day – my dad decided he would come along to keep me company!

It was a good time getting to talk for an entire day, that doesn’t happen very often with how busy life is. It was particularly fun talking about the past, remembering all our trips from my childhood, and all the funny memories. It’s amazing the memories I remember from my childhood, when he was in the phase of life that I am in now! Isn’t that weird! 

Another thing that is funny, is I realized I have all these memories and I don’t know where they are from! I kept asking dad, and he would tell me – that was in Maine…that was in Colorado…that was at Disneyland…that was in PA….I never knew we went to half the places we went to!! 

Another thing that’s funny to me, is that my kids are the age I was when I have these memories from. That’s a bad sentence I know, but you know what I mean? I wonder, what will they remember? What memories will stick out to them? What is special for them?  What little memories will stick with them, that I won’t remember?

Isn’t that cool? It’s so neat how we build these memories and lives together. 

So yeah – it was a good day.  A nice drive, a great talk, and a pretty good sub at a nice little side-of-the-mountain subshop.
